Vibe coding

Building software by describing what you want to an AI and iterating on the result, often without reading every line.

Coined by Andrej Karpathy in early 2025, vibe coding means steering an AI coding tool with natural language — "make the button bigger," "add a login page" — and judging by whether it works rather than by reading the code.

Great for prototypes, personal tools and learning. For anything with users, money or data, pair it with tests, version control and review.
